SAPS turmoil | EFF slams Mchunu leave of absence as a cover-up

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu on special leave.

It's in response to explosive allegations of links to organised crime and political interference within law enforcement.

The President also announced the formation of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

But not everyone is convinced the President is taking real accountability.

The EFF has slammed the move as a smokescreen, calling it cowardly, unconstitutional and designed to shield a corrupt minister.

EFF MP Nazier Paulsen said the inquiry is a fruitless expenditure.
