SA's dark underworld | Mafia making demands govt can't refuse

JOHANNESBURG - Underworld networks are growing fast and is threatening lives and livelihoods.

That's according to the latest study by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime.

Titled 'The shadow economy' it uncovers Cape Town’s extortion networks.

It may have started in the Cape but its tentacles now reach every corner of the country.

The Mafia has its fingers in everything from construction to mining and transport and even water.
