JOHANNESBURG - Social media experts are warning users to be careful of what they post on social media this as it always has a way of haunting them
This is because posts lives online forever.
This warning comes amid intensifying calls for Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie to resign following racially charged posts back in 2013.
Social media legal consultant Lerato Ntwampe says having a bad digital footprint has damaging consequences.
Many people according to Ntwampe bare the brunt of what they post on social media including being victims of cancel culture, cuber mobs, losing your job or opportunities that may come your way.
She cautions social media users to think before they post. This includes considering these five questions:
- Is it something true?
- Is it something harmful ?
- Is it something illegal?
- Is something necessary ?
- Is it kind ?
Ntwampe says by answering these questions one will be in a better position to decipher if the post is worth it or not.
