JOHANNESBURG - Dietitians are not convinced that government's sugar tax is enough, to combat obesity and related non-communicable diseases.

The Health Promotion Levy was introduced in 2018 in an attempt to reduce citizens’ sugar intake, and help reduce obesity in the country.

But a new survey by researchers from the Division of Human Nutrition at Stellenbosch University, suggests that while many role players in the industry think the move is positive, it's simply not enough.

Dr Yolande Smit from the University's Department of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences spoke with eNCA.
