Trump-Musk fallout | Could SA see a shift in US policy?

WASHINGTON - The once-curious alliance between US President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk is on the rocks, publicly and dramatically.

But beyond the headlines of personal fallout lies a deeper and far more consequential issue for South Africa.  

It’s widely believed that Elon Musk played a role in influencing Trump’s controversial claim of a so-called “white genocide” in South Africa: a statement that drew international criticism. 

With the relationship now reportedly on the rocks, the question is whether this political rift have real implications for more pressing matters affecting South Africa. 

The reinstatement of PEPFAR funding or a shift in US foreign policy are hopefully on the cards.
