WATCH | Bogus doctors putting people's lives at risk

JOHANNESBURG - The Health Professions Council of South Africa says they have received a sharp increase in complaints about bogus doctors with more than 300 cases this year alone.

Over the past three years there have been 136 arrests. With public health buckling, many consumers may be vulnerable to someone professing to be a doctor offering consultations at cut price rates.

This not only poses the threat of fraud but also, serious health conditions may be missed or incorrectly treated.

The recent matter of bogus Tik Tok doctor, Mathew Lani has highlighted how easy it is to get a social media profile and claim to be something you are not. The bogus doctors who set up practices and try and treat patients, could risk lives. Dr Nthuthuko Bhengu, founder and CEO of Alchemy Health explains.
