DURBAN - Family members of anti-apartheid activist Griffiths Mxenge say they hope the re-opening of the inquest into his murder will bring closure and justice.
Mxenge, a well-known lawyer and ANC activist, was brutally murdered and mutilated in 1981 in Umlazi Township, Durban.
He was stabbed forty five times. Nine years later Butana Almond Nofemela confessed to killing Mxenge.
Nofemela, David Tshikalange and Dirk Coetzee were found guilty of the murder of Mxenge, and were granted amnesty by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Mxenge’s inquest gets underway at the KwaZulu-Natal High Court sitting in Pietermaritzburg.
