JOHANNESBURG - What happened to Katlego Bereng?

The 32-year-old went missing in March 2022.

DNA tests confirmed that it was his body that was set alight in  Thabo  Bester's cell, as part of his elaborate escape from prison.

But the National Prosecuting Authority dropped the murder charge against the accused, due to insufficient evidence.

Bereng’s father says he will be suing the State and still wants to know how his son’s body ended up in the prison, and who killed him.

The State alleges he collapsed at a taxi rank, but the family says nothing could be further from the truth.
