WATCH | Over 40 still trapped in collapsed building in George

GEORGE - A rescue operation is underway in George in the Western Cape, to find over forty workers trapped after a building collapsed.

The collapse has resulted in the closure of Victoria street and the municipality's offices which are in adjacent York Street.

Authorities there have asked members of the public for help.

They've established drop off points for those wishing to donate drinking water, energy drinks, wine gums, or any food for the teams working on site. A municipal official will be at Ivy Street at 79 Victoria St, to collect any contributions.

Mayor of George, Leon Van Wyk spoke to eNCA's Dan Moyane about the tragic incident.
