JOHANNESBURG - Drivers are having to wait for smart licences because the procurement of new printing machines is at a standstill.

For decades now, the country has relied on one printer to produce driver's licence cards.

This means it takes 14 working days to finish one card.

At times, the number of outstanding licence renewal applications has been as high as 1-point-3 million.
