WATCH: The Soweto pupils who sparked global uprising

SOWETO - We are marking 49 years since the 1976 Soweto Uprising.

It was a pivotal moment when brave students took to the streets to protest the use of Afrikaans in schools.

The peaceful march turned into a massacre when apartheid police opened fire on the unarmed children.

Their stand sparked an international movement for freedom and justice, fueling the fight against apartheid.

Joining us to reflect on that historic day are Boitumelo Mofokeng and Jabu Shabangu, who survived the tragedy.
