JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is stepping up efforts to crack down on fuel retailers accused of price manipulation and selling contaminated diesel.
Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe issued this warning at the Fuels Industry Imbizo in Johannesburg.
He says government remains concerned about incidents in late March and early April.
Some retailers jumped the gun and increased diesel prices before official fuel adjustments took effect.

Mantashe also warned against the growing problem of diesel being mixed with cheaper illuminating paraffin.
The illegal practice can damage vehicle engines and costs the state millions in lost tax revenue.
