Motorists brace for fuel price increases after months of declines

JOHANNESBURG - The price at the pumps is going up after two months of declines.

Government has confirmed officially that both grades of petrol will rise by 20 cents on Wednesday.

Diesel will climb by between 62 and 65 cents.

95 unleaded petrol in Gauteng is the most expensive type of fuel because it has to be transported inland.

It’s going up from R20,10 to R20,30.

This increase doesn’t reflect the price of oil today, which has climbed in response to the Middle East.

Petrol price changes are calculated on the previous month's average prices of oil and the Dollar-Rand exchange rate.

However, sustained higher oil prices will mean higher fuel prices in future, raising concern about inflation around the world.
