JOHANNESBURG - Vodacom and Nkosana Makate, the inventor of the Please Call Me service and a former employee, have reached a landmark out-of-court agreement.
The Supreme Court said that Makate was entitled to 5 to 7.5 percent of the revenue Vodacom generated from the service.
Black Rock Mining Limited, the original funder of Makate’s legal battle, has launched proceedings to claim its 40 percent share of the settlement.

The company says it funded Makate’s case under a 2013 agreement and has demanded written assurance from his lawyers that its portion will be retained.
Black Rock Mining attorney, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni, said: "We've heard from both Vodacom's and Mr Makate's attorneys. Of course, at this stage, I don't really want to delve into what was stated in the two pieces of correspondence.
"Safe to say, the contents of our letter have been disputed by Mr Makate's attorneys and it seems like we're preparing for a fight."
