Eskom takes major step to make electricity more reliable and affordable

JOHANNESBURG -  Eskom has received ministerial approval to split into separate entities.

This is in effort to make  electricity more reliable and affordable

One will run power stations. 

Another will deliver electricity to homes and the National Transmission Company will manage the grid.

A new renewable energy unit, Eskom Green, will focus on clean energy. A fully independent operator will oversee the national grid and electricity trading. 

Eskom says the move will reduce blackouts, attract investment, expand renewable energy, and improve service.

The full transition is planned through 2030.
