JOHANNESBURG - It's that time of the year when many people are hoping to get their tax returns from the South African Revenue Service.
But it's also a period where fraudsters are on the rise.
Now, SARS has flagged new scams ahead of the tax season, which starts on Monday.
The revenue service is urging users to steer clear of messages from unknown sources and refrain from clicking on unknown links.
Tax expert Pieter Faber said SARS has a list on its website about all the scams.
"To a large extent, these scams work on confidence and fear," he said.
