WATCH | Extortion choking Cape Town economy

CAPE TOWN - Multiple building projects in the City of Cape Town are being stalled due to gangsters extorting money from contractors.

Transport projects to the value of R60m are being halted.

Housing projects are also being affected and even the person selling vetkoek on the street corner is being extorted.

Just over a week ago, at the rollout of the second phase of the Myciti bus service construction site in Philippi, a security guard and his dog were shot and injured.
