Arcelormittal forges ahead with job cuts
JOHANNESBURG - ArcelorMittal is pushing forward with shutting down its long-steel plants.
This is despite government discussions about a R1 billion rescue package. The company blames the shutdown on losses and financial unsustainability.

The shuttering of the Newcastle and Vereeniging plants, as well as at Amras, will affect 3500 jobs.
President of the Steel Industries Federation, Elias Monage says many more will be affected.
