JOHANNESBURG - ArcelorMittal is moving ahead with plans to shut down its long steel business.
The move could cost over 3,000 jobs if there is no solution found by the end of September.
The company says financial losses and tough market conditions have left operations unsustainable.
Among the hardest hit is Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal, where much of the workforce and local economy depend on the steel giant.
eNCA senior reporter Aviwe Mtila provided an update from the field.
