Chicken price hike on the cards as Brazilian poultry imports remain banned

JOHANNESBURG - Local producers have stepped up to close the gap created by the banning of chicken imports from Brazil.

An outbreak of avian influenza in that country led to South Africa stopping chickens coming from that country.

Brazil supplies over about 84 percent of all chicken imports to South Africa.
