JOHANNESBURG - Impala Platinum has temporarily suspended mining at its Rustenburg operations following a rise in serious safety incidents.
Mining at the complex will be suspended until 28 July to carry out a comprehensive safety reset.
Implats says it wants to strengthen safety controls and reinforce operational discipline before work resumes.

Employees will undergo additional safety training, while all rail-bound equipment will be re-inspected and re-tested.
The company will also bring in independent safety specialists to review its safety systems and recommend improvements.
Implats says the temporary shutdown will affect production during the 2027 financial year, but insists no target is more important than the safety of its employees.
