Petrol price expected to drop next week

JOHANNESBURG - There is some respite for motorists next week as the petrol price is expected to drop slightly.

But diesel users aren't so lucky.

Month-end data from the Central Energy Fund shows the petrol price could drop by R1 per litre.

Diesel, however, is showing an under-recovery, meaning a potential increase of 10c per litre.

Analysts say the difference in the prices of diesel and petrol boils down to supply and demand.

There is a high demand for diesel globally as Europe struggles to meet electricity needs.
