JOHANNESBURG - Pick n Pay ASAP has launched a new AI shopper named Penny.
As South Africa's retail sector finds new ways to make shopping easier for customers, Penny allows shoppers to use voice, text and even photos in their purchase.
Backed by Google Gemini, it allows shoppers to speak to it in almost any language.
Pick n Pay's Enrico Ferigolli said it currently has all European languages as represented by Google Gemini. However, plans are afoot to teach it South African languages.
According to Ferigolli, the app can also help you compile recipes for a meal you want to try, making shopping for the said recipe easier.
The feature launched on Thursday on the ASAP app and is ready for use.
