SA in need of more actuarial scientists

JOHANNESBURG - The shortage of black actuaries means South Africa needs more school leavers with a distinction in mathematics.

However, the high standard of mathematical achievement required for admission into the field is not prevalent among black communities.

The actuarial profession is virtually unknown in rural and previously disadvantaged communities.
