SECUNDA - South Africa's energy giant, Sasol, has confirmed that law enforcement officials have seized documents and taken samples at its operations in Secunda in Mpumalanga
The officials from the SAPS and the Environmental Management Inspectorate - the so-called green scorpions - are looking for documents relating to an old case, where Sasol was accused of dumping toxic waste into the Vaal River System by a whistleblower.
Sasol has rubbished the claims.
It says it was served with two warrants requesting electronic and hard-copy documents.

The energy giant says officials also intend to inspect the Benfield plant and take samples at various points in an around Sasol's Secunda operations.
Years ago, a former senior process controller at Sasol alleged that the company had allowed waste with carcinogenic chemicals to enter the Vaal River System and it could impact on the drinking water of millions.
The charges were withdrawn without explanation last year.
Sasol has said that the claims are technically impossible because the Benfield Plant does not have a direct path to the Vaal River.
