JOHANNESBURG - After a two-year hiatus, Stats SA has released provincial GDP data.
Gauteng remains the country's economic powerhouse.
Last year, the province was responsible for R33 of every R100 produced by the South African economy.
The economy of Gauteng is larger than the economies of KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape combined.
Mining and manufacturing are the biggest industries in most of the provinces.
Gauteng is followed by KwaZulu-Natal which contributes around 15-percent to overall GDP while the Western Cape contributes just over 13-percent.
The Northern Cape and Free State contribute the least to South Africa's economy.
