JOHANNESBURG - An imminent strike at Gautrain has been averted with an above-inflation wage agreement for all workers.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa's members balloted for a strike on Friday, but Gautrain management requested a meeting where consensus was reached.
All workers will receive a eight percent wage increase as well as increased allowances for housing and transport.
One of the contentious issues was also resolved, with the Gautrain staff card that will stay in place.
Numsa has been engaged in wage talks since April.
"Numsa welcomes the agreement, because it resolves the burning issues which sparked the dispute with the employer," said the union's Phakamile Hlubi.
