Transnet | Only two companies bid for rail slots
JOHANNESBURG - Transnet Freight Rail has announced that only two companies took part in its auction of slots on the Kroonstad to East London route, on the Cape Corridor.
Initially, 19 parties expressed interest in applying for the 16 slots advertised for the Durban Container Corridor and the Cape Corridor.
Transnet says one of the successful bidders, Traxtion Sheltam, successfully completed the first stage of evaluation for the route.
The company will now be required to complete the rest of the application process, including fulfilling the Rail Safety Regulator requirements.
After the second stage of the evaluation process is complete, final negotiations will be held and operations on the route will get under way in the 2023/24 financial year.
The African Rail Industry Association last week slammed the State Freight entity for imposing restrictive measures on private investors.
