Volkswagen recalls over 25000 Polo Vivo cars

JOHANNESBURG - The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has recalled 25,800 Volkswagen Polo Vivo vehicles nationwide.

The affected cars sold between February 2025 to February 2026, were found to have had handbrake defect risks.

According to NCC, the rivet height on the handbrake lever may be outside the required specification.

This defect could result in the handbrakes failure to engage properly, in a rare case, disengage unexpectedly.

The defect may pose a safety risk, particularly when the vehicle is parked on an incline, NCC said.

Acting Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu said given the high potential risks of the defect, owners of affected vehicles must take their cars to any authorised VW dealership for inspection.

He added that all inspection and associated repairs will be done at no cost to the vehicle owners.
