WATCH | More questions than answers over SA-Spurs deal

Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says the news article detailing a R1bn proposal to sponsor Tottenham Hotspur is riddled with inaccuracies and untruths.

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa keeps shooting a series of own goals according to David Frost, CEO of the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association.

He's reacting to news that SA Tourism is on the cusp of finalising a sponsorship agreement with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.

At the same time, former SA Tourism Deputy Chair Thebe Ikalafeng says South Africa is already known, but so are our many challenges.

The controversial proposal for SA Tourism to sponsor the team comes at a time when many businesses in the tourism sector are struggling to shake off the effects of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu says the news article detailing a R1bn proposal to sponsor Tottenham Hotspur is riddled with inaccuracies and untruths.

According to the tourism ministry, the reported deal is a Tourism Board matter on which Sisulu has not been briefed.

The Board is an independent body.

Proposals are received and processed before being passed through its executive committee and finally presented.

The ministry says the memorandum of understanding with Tottenham Hotspur is non-binding and must still pass muster.
