Correctional Services Minister, Pieter Groenewald has suggested revisiting corporal punishment as a way to ease overcrowding in prisons, particularly for inmates who cannot afford even minimum bail amounts.
Corporal punishment was abolished in 1996, but Groenewald argues it might ease a prison system buckling under pressure.
