Fraud and corruption charges against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and Brigadier Dineo Mokwele have been withdrawn at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. NDPP Andy Mothibi ordered the withdrawal and directed that the case may not be enrolled again without his written approval. Both officials say they are ready to move forward.

Police have uncovered an alleged R600-million drug-manufacturing operation in Musina, Limpopo. Five people have been arrested as authorities intensify their campaign against organised drug syndicates. The discovery follows another major drug-laboratory bust in Swartruggens in May.

DA MP Mark Burke has been removed as the party’s finance spokesperson, while the ANC has opened a criminal case against him and Kastelo, a company linked to him. ANC Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli says allegations involving approximately R4 billion are being investigated by the South African Reserve Bank.

Cats in a food storeroom, meat kept on the floor and alleged 13-hour shifts without overtime pay were among violations found during regulatory inspections across Johannesburg. Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth says repeat offenders could face prosecution.

The Special Investigating Unit has referred 5,944 cases to prosecutors since 2011, but only around 10% have resulted in registered criminal dockets. It wants stronger cooperation with the National Prosecuting Authority and the Hawks to address the bottlenecks.

Globally, Melania Trump has returned to public view following a month-long absence. She appeared with President Donald Trump at an event marking university-scholarship donations ahead of a Washington race celebrating America’s 250th Independence Anniversary.

Tension is building ahead of Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry after Springbok assistant coach Felix Jones raised concerns about the All Blacks’ conduct at the breakdown. Jones relayed complaints from the Sharks, Stormers and Bulls after their recent matches against New Zealand.

Mamelodi Sundowns hope to carry the momentum of their historic CAF Champions League triumph into domestic competition. Chairman Tlhopane Motsepe says the MTN8 offers the club its first chance to add another trophy this weekend.
