JOHANNESBURG - National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has not been charged with corruption.
That's according to acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.
Masemola will appear in court next month in connection with the Medicare24 tender saga.
"General Masemola has been charged. The charges are under section 38 of the Public Finance Management Act," Cachalia said.
"That concerns the standards that an accounting officer must meet.
"Masemola has not been charged with corruption," Cachalia said.
"He is still the national commissioner, but we have to respond to the fact that he has been charged."
Cachalia says he will present President Cyril Ramaphosa with possible options to address the matter involving Masemola.
"I met with the president together with Minister Kubayi. We had a preliminary discussion about options," Cachalia said.
"I will provide the president with a memorandum setting out my views on what those options might be."
