JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is expected to provide a report on allegations involving political fixer Brown Mogotsi when the case resumes on 1 September.
The State revealed on Tuesday that Mogotsi allegedly planned to escape from court during his last appearance on 20 August.
According to the State, a DCS colonel contacted prosecutors and informed them of the alleged plot, in which Mogotsi was reportedly planning to disguise himself as a Correctional Services official.
Mogotsi’s lawyers said they were hearing about the allegations for the first time.
The revelation came during Mogotsi’s fourth bail application at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, where he presented what he described as new facts in support of his bid for release.
Mogotsi faces charges including perjury, defeating the ends of justice and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges relate to an alleged attempt to stage his own assassination last November.
The State has argued that Mogotsi is a flight risk, saying his addresses have repeatedly changed.
The bail application has been postponed to 1 September, when the DCS report is expected to be finalised.
