Dina Pule's Cabinet return raises eyebrows

CAPE TOWN - Dina Pule has returned to Parliament as the new Social Development Minister.

She replaces Sisisi Tolashe, who was dismissed by President Cyril Ramaphosa following findings of misconduct relating to both ANC matters and her role in government.

Pule’s reappointment has raised eyebrows, as she was fired as Communications Minister by then-President Jacob Zuma in 2013.

She was found to have breached Parliament’s Code of Ethical Conduct by failing to declare a relationship with her romantic partner, who was allegedly involved in activities linked to her department.

Pule was sworn in on Wednesday.

The Cabinet reshuffle also saw Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen moved to the position of Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.

The Democratic Alliance’s Willie Aucamp has replaced Steenhuisen as Agriculture Minister.
