JOHANNESBURG - Political parties are monitoring the results at the IEC Results Operations Centre.
The ANC says councillors elected under its banner must prioritise service delivery and remain accountable to their communities.
ANC First Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane says more than 99% of the party’s ward councillor candidates emerged from community-led processes.

She says the party has also taken its candidates through political education and governance training.
Mokonyane says councillors will be expected to return to their communities within the first 30 days of a council being constituted to identify local priorities.
Mayors and their teams will then have 100 days to review Integrated Development Plans against available budgets and engage stakeholders on service delivery priorities.
