JOHANNESBURG - The ANC is projected to win the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, according to the latest MarkData election projections.
The ANC is projected to get between 40% and 44% of the vote, while the UDM is expected to secure between 15% and 19%, and the DA between 14% and 18%.
"This is an astonishing result," says election analyst Wayne Sussman.
According to the data, the ANC's national support fell from 58% to 40% in 2024, largely due to the rise of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

The South African Communist Party is also putting pressure on the ANC. Despite this, the UDM continues to grow its support in Buffalo City.
In 2024, the Economic Freedom Fighters enjoyed significant support in the municipality. However, the latest data suggests that its support may have halved.
According to the projections, the ANC and EFF have lost support in Mdantsane and Bisho, while support for the UDM and SACP has increased in the same areas.
