The party is also leading in the Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni metros, as vote counting continues.

Malema says the ANC’s decision to enter into a coalition with the DA at national level has helped legitimise the party in the eyes of voters.

Meanwhile, the EFF leader says his party will take stock of its performance and work towards rebuilding its support.

The EFF has lost ground in these elections, dropping to fourth place nationally.

Malema says the party will assess its performance across municipalities and provinces, identifying areas of improvement and where it needs to rebuild ahead of the 2029 provincial and national elections.
