CAPE TOWN - Being Parliament Speaker is a big responsibility, says Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.
The party tabled a motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza.
The motion failed after 282 MPs voted against it, while 101 voted in favour of removing Didiza.
The motion was tabled in June over her handling of the impeachment process in Parliament.
Didiza opted not to oppose the Western Cape High Court’s decision to pause proceedings as President Cyril Ramaphosa challenges the Phala Phala report.
Malema says the Speaker represents all 400 members of the House and has a responsibility to uphold the Constitution.

The EFF and MK Party supported the motion, while GNU parties largely voted against it.
Ramaphosa’s review application will be heard in the Western Cape High Court from next Wednesday.
The outcome will determine whether proceedings by the Impeachment Committee can go ahead.
