MAHIKENG - The new man in charge of the North West police promises to hit the ground running, with a focus on fighting illegal mining.
Arthur Peter Adams takes over the reins from 1 August.
He says communities should not be forced to tolerate the lawlessness caused by illegal miners.
Adams brings to the North West table his 34 years of policing experience.
He acknowledges the task ahead is a mammoth one.
The challenges in the North West province run deep, and police departments are not exempt.
The provincial government has pledged full support to the new commissioner in the fight against crime.
But Premier Lazarus Mokgosi is also urging stricter police discipline amid current corruption probes.
Adams has urged police to stay focused and not let the dark cloud over the department distract them from their duties.
