OUTA calls for accountability over alleged R500m City Power fraud scandal

JOHANNESBURG - The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is demanding accountability following allegations linking Zimbabwean pastor Witness Mazanaga to multimillion-rand fraud involving City Power contracts worth over R500-million.

The allegations, first reported by News24, point to possible corruption and serious supply chain management failures within the utility.

OUTA says the focus should not only be on external actors, but also on officials within the system who may have enabled the alleged irregularities.

OUTA's Wayne Duvenage has called on City Power leadership and the City of Johannesburg mayor to explain what controls are in place and what steps are being taken to prevent further abuse.

"The questions are to the mayor and City Power CEO: What are the controls, what are they doing?" he asked.
