JOHANNESBURG - The National Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit seized over R1-million worth of goods in Johannesburg's CBD on Wednesday.
This is part of ongoing efforts to combat the production, distribution and sale of counterfeit goods targeted Joburg Mall, a notorious hub for illicit trade in the inner city.
"We only identify goods that we regulate," said Trade and Industry's Tintswalo Ntlhane.
"We regulate products in multiple sectors, so when we go into a shop we know the products that we regulate in their respective categories."

The goods are checked against the requirements. Once they do not meet the department's requirements, they are taken out of the market.
Shop owners were not surprised by the police raid, as it is part of a familiar enforcement pattern rather than an unexpected disruption.
The final value of confiscated items will be determined later.
Authorities also apprehended nine undocumented foreign nationals.
