CAPE TOWN - Parliament’s legal advisers have reminded members that an objective and evidence-based process must underpin the Section 89 Impeachment Committee.
They've also advised MPs against lining up President Cyril Ramaphosa as the committee's first witness.
Ramaphosa has filed papers contesting opposition parties' direct access application to the Constitutional Court.
The legal team says calling the President to appear first would undermine procedural fairness and would be inconsistent with the Constitutional principles governing the Committee’s work.
MPs have voted in favour of Advocate Thandazani Madonsela being appointed as commission evidence leader.
They're in the process of refining the Committee’s terms of reference.
