THEMBISA - A total of R87-million has been spent, hundreds of homes remain unfinished, and the people they were meant for are still waiting.
The abandoned Hospital View Housing Project in Thembisa has become a symbol of delays, broken promises and growing questions over accountability.
The project was meant to provide housing for hundreds of qualifying beneficiaries, but years after construction ground to a halt, the site has been left abandoned and vandalised.

Most of the intended beneficiaries come from the nearby Winnie Mandela informal settlement.
Many continue to live in poor conditions while waiting for the homes they were promised.
Among them is beneficiary Elom Mathenjwa, who says she applied for a house in 2001 but has been waiting ever since.

Opposition parties are demanding accountability.
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has passed responsibility to the City of Ekurhuleni, saying the metro was responsible for project execution and site management.
eNCA has also approached the City of Ekurhuleni for comment and is awaiting a response.
