RATANDA - Residents of Ratanda in Heidelberg say government has failed them.
Despite assurances from the Gauteng government that water supply will be restored, they say their taps are still dry.
And to make matters worse, there's now a burst water pipe, adding to their frustration.
Residents took to the streets last week, resulting in two people killed allegedly by police, while angry protesters set the mayor's house on fire, resulting in 15 arrests.
The unrest occurs amid the Lesedi Local Municipality's multi-million rand debt to Rand Water.
Meanwhile, there were scenes of jubilation outside the Heidelberg magistrate's court after charges against five Ratanda community members arrested for public violence were withdrawn.
Police are, however, still searching for suspects linked to the arson attack.
But for now, residents are still angry, and they might protest again if the situation does not improve.
Community leaders are also considering reporting the matter to the Human Rights Commission.
