BOKSBURG - Help has seemingly arrived for more than 2,000 pupils at Reiger Park Secondary School after almost three months without basic water and sanitation.
The Gauteng Education Department has deployed 20 temporary toilets following an eNCA investigation into the school’s unhygienic conditions.
But the intervention has already sparked fresh concerns, with the school governing body calling for a permanent solution.
“We appreciate the fact that the department has intervened in this situation,” said School Governing Body chairperson Charona Louw.
“But the toilets are not conducive. They don’t flush, and imagine when they get full,” she said.

The Gauteng Education Department said the toilets are a stop-gap measure while a permanent solution is being sought.
“We don’t want to see temporary toilets at the school,” said Education MEC Lebogang Maile.
“That is why we have instructed our infrastructure team to work quickly and swiftly to make sure we sort this out,” he said.
