PRETORIA - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) seized electronic devices from the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) on Tuesday.
The raid at their Centurion offices relates to a R130 million contract relating to training of security personnel, election observers and computer lessons.
The security industry regulator is an arm of government and the raid was proclaimed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in June.
According to SIU spokesperson Advocate Selby Makgotho, the raid is in search of documents they had requested from PSIRA, which was not forthcoming.
"This is a last resort," says Makgotho.
"We are pursuing a proclamation where we are looking into various allegations of irregularities relating to the procurement," he says.
The contracts ran between 2018 and 2026.
However, of key interest to the SIU are documents pertaining to some time around 2022, says Makgotho.

He explains that there are three contracts valued at around R130 million.
The first contract is for observers for the 2024 elections.
The second contract is for end-user computing and a third relating to the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF).
"What we found was that invoices were paid, they were generated, but there was no value for money," says Makgotho.
In request of the proclamation, the SIU wanted to satisfy itself that there was nothing untoward, says Makgotho.

The SIU confiscated files, electronics and other devices to help them in their investigation.
