So-called pastor and two wives appear in court over baby's death

JOHANNESBURG - A so-called pastor accused of murdering a four-month-old baby and raping her mother is expected to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

His two wives are also expected to appear in court in connection with the case.

The 36-year-old was arrested over the weekend after police found him hiding in a back room at an informal settlement in Diepsloot.

Police say the man and his two wives accompanied the 43-year-old woman and her baby to the Hennops River in Pretoria last week for a ritual.

The man allegedly went ahead with the woman, leaving the infant in the care of his wives.

Police believe the woman was raped before she managed to escape.
