JOHANNESBURG - North West businessman Suliman Carrim could face further charges linked to alleged fraud and corruption involving the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality.

The 49-year-old’s arrest followed his failure to appear before the commission, which subsequently laid a criminal complaint against him.

According to police, Carrim had a return ticket when he was arrested and was due to return to South Africa on 28 October.

He has also been implicated in alleged corruption and questionable dealings involving alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Carrim had been flagged by the Cold Case Unit in connection with fraud and corruption allegations under investigation involving the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality in North West.

The team was alerted that this individual was flying out of the country. They flagged him and alerted the Cold Case Unit, which then alerted the Commission’s Recommendations Task, as they have been working closely together,” Mathe said.
