Westbury families plead for lasting SANDF presence after gang killings

JOHANNESBURG - Families who've lost loved ones to gang violence in Westbury say the army's arrival has brought some relief.

But that relief was short-lived.

Residents say the soldiers were only visible for a day.

They're hoping the SANDF's presence becomes permanent before more people are killed.

The military's presence also carries a painful question: What if help had come sooner?

Residents say violence has become an everyday reality.

Standing in the very streets where so many people have died, residents say they need a lasting solution and not a temporary show of force. 

For families in Westbury, every gunshot is a painful reminder that the next victim could be someone they love.
